I. THE DIGNITY OF HUMAN BEINGS
A. We are the only creatures in heaven and earth which get to ask God for things.
This is a dignity far beyond anything that we can imagine. What other creature
gets to approach the eternal King of Glory and ask for things? To ask is an honor
far beyond our fathoming. We ask, God hears, and angels are dispatched with
divine decrees. How unthinkable. Weak human beings lift their voices and the
God of Heaven hears and releases His governmental decrees to change planet
earth.
B. It is rooted in our design. God has forever connected government and intimacy.
Our dominion is forever linked with our dependency upon intimacy and asking.
Governmental decisions are never outside the context of intimacy, love, and
fascination. God loves to be asked, He loves to hear, and He loves to thrill us
through the answers. God designs the creatures made in His image with the
governmental delight of asking Him for things. This is life
–to forever lean uponour Bridegroom God and ask Him for decisions on the earth. Intercession is at the
base level of what it means to be human and made in the image of the living God.
Government is never simply making decisions with a given set of facts. It is
always indelibly marked with leaning, communing, and asking. Government is
more than enforcing divine order. It is filled with intimacy, light, and love. It is
the fascinated interplay of human asking and divine answering unto worship,
wonder, and whispers of love.
C. When ministers tell me that they are not into the prayer thing. My jaw drops
because of the lack of basic understanding. Intercession is not a personality
profile or option in the Christian life. It is at the core of what it means to be
human. I fee
l like saying to them, "What do you meanthat you are not intoprayer?
" It’s like saying that you are not human. Humans ask by design, not bychoice. It is the beauty of our race, our species. It is the nobility of being invited
into the image of the living God. We ask, He hears, and angels are released to
enforce divine decrees. Who would want to be anything else?"
II. DAVID, GOVERNMENT, AND THE TABERNACLE
David, the man of God, the king after God’s own
heart, He gives unique insight into anancient eternal decree of the Father concerning ruler ship of planet earth. David has an
extraordinary revelation concerning the government of planet earth that kept his heart in
righteousness until the very end.
A. Government is released through asking. The Father commands that in the context
of intimacy and love, government will be accomplished through asking.

B.
The Messiah would enter into His Kingdom through asking. "Ask of Me and Iwill give the ends of the earth as Your possession." Jesus as the God
-man asks.David sees the divine pattern and sets up the prayer and worship ministry as the
heart and soul of his kingdom. In I Chron. 28:10-19 David states that the Lord
gave him the plans for the Temple and charged Solomon to follow through on its
design.
III.
SATAN’S ASSAULT ON THE PRIESTLY MINISTRYA. The Census
–Satan moves David to trust in his strength rather than trust theLord’s provision and rule through intimacy.
1. 1 Chronicles 21:1 Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to
number Israel.
a. 2 Samuel 24:1 states that it was the anger of the Lord which was
aroused against Israel and He moved David against them. 2 Sam.
gives us insight into the test that God allowed to come upon David.
Would David trust in his strength or would he trust in the Lord.
Ps. 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in
man. NKJV
Ps. 146:3-6 Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in
whom there is no help. 4 His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In
that very day his plans perish. 5 Happy is he who has the God of Jacob
for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God, 6 Who made heaven
and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever,
Prov. 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the
LORD shall be safe. NKJV
Isa. 31:1-3 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on
horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen
because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of
Israel, Nor seek the LORD! 2 Yet He also is wise and will bring
disaster, And will not call back His words, But will arise against the

house of evildoers, And against the help of those who work iniquity. 3
Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; And their horses are flesh,
and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, Both he who
helps will fall, And he who is helped will fall down; They all will
perish together. Jer. 17:5 Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man
who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs
from the LORD.
Jer. 17:5 Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man
And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.
b. Joab resists, but David influenced by Satan overpowers their
resistance. "The king’s word prevailed against Joab and the captains
of the army."
2 Sam. 24:3-4 And Joab said to the king,
"Now may the LORD yourGod add to the people a hundred times more than there are, and
may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the
king desire this thing?" 4 Nevertheless the king's word prevailed
against Joab and against the captains of the army. Therefore Joab
and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king to
count the people of Israel.
2. It becomes the place where the Temple is built.
1 Chron. 21:16-17 Then David lifted his eyes and saw the angel of the
LORD standing between earth and heaven, having in his hand a drawn
sword stretched out over Jerusalem. So David and the elders, clothed in
sackcloth, fell on their faces. 17 And David said to God, "Was it not I who
commanded the people to be numbered? I am the one who has sinned and
done evil indeed; but these sheep, what have they done? Let Your hand, I
pray, O LORD my God, be against me and my father's house, but not
against Your people that they should be plagued."
1 Chron. 21:26-22:2 And David built there an altar to the LORD, and
offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on the LORD; and
He answered him from heaven by fire on the altar of burnt offering. 27 So
the LORD commanded the angel, and he returned his sword to its sheath.
28 At that time, when David saw that the LORD had answered him on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he sacrificed there. 29 For the
tabernacle of the LORD and the altar of the burnt offering, which Moses

30 But David could not go before it to inquire of God, for he was afraid of
the sword of the angel of the LORD. 1 Chronicles 22 Then David
said,"This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of burnt
offering for Israel."

II Chron. 6:18-21 "But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth?
Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How
much less this temple which I have built! 19
"Yet regard the prayer ofYour servant and his supplication, O LORD my God, and listen to the
cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You: 20
"that Your eyes may be open toward this temple day and night,
toward the place where You said You would put Your name, that You
may hear the prayer which Your servant prays toward this place. 21
"And may You hear the supplications of Your servant and of Your
people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven
Your dwelling place, and when You hear, forgive.

4. Solomon in verses 36-39 gives the formula for return from exile and links
it to the intercession of the God’s people in the land of their exile.
II Chron. 6:36-39 "When they sin against You (for there is no one who
does not sin), and You become angry with them and deliver them to the
enemy, and they take them captive to a land far or near; 37 "yet when they
come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and
repent, and make supplication to You in the land of their captivity, saying,
'We have sinned, we have done wrong, and have committed wickedness';
38 "and when they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul
in the land of their captivity, where they have been carried captive, and
pray toward their land which You gave to their fathers, the city which You
have chosen, and toward the temple which I have built for Your name: 39
"then hear from heaven Your dwelling place their prayer and their
supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive Your people who have
sinned against You.
5.
God answers Solomon’s prayer by fire and confirms the wisdom ofSolomon’s prayer and forever links the destiny of the people of God with
the priestly ministry of intercession.
II Chron. 7:1-3 When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down
from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the
glory of the LORD filled the temple. 2 And the priests could not enter the
house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the
LORD'S house. 3 When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came
down, and the glory of the LORD on the temple, they bowed their faces to
the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the LORD,
saying: "For He is good, For His mercy endures forever."
6. God appears to Solomon at night and confirms the arrangement.
II Chron. 7:12-16 Then the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and
said to him: "I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for
Myself as a house of sacrifice. 13 "When I shut up heaven and there is no
rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among
My people, 14 "if My people who are called by My name will humble
themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
15 "Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in
this place. 16 "For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My
name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there
perpetually.

V. DANIEL 9
A. Dan. 9:1-4 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the lineage of the
Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans -- 2 in the first year
of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified
by the word of the LORD through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would
accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. 3 Then I set my face
toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting,
sackcloth, and ashes.
B. Daniel follows in the tradition of how human government is dependent upon the
ministry of intercession. He has access to the highest government official of the
day. Yet, he chooses to forgo a governmental appeal to Darius and enters into His
heavenly gift as a governmental leader in a higher court and palace. He enters
into a higher form of government, enters the bedroom chamber of the King of
Kings, and requests forgiveness and release.
C. He sets His face towards the Lord God. He sets is face towards Adonai, the all
powerful One, the Sovereign Ruler of Heaven and Earth. He sets His face toward
Yahweh, the covenant God who has set His affections upon Israel to love them.
In that place Daniel prays and makes confession.
D.
Daniel’s prayer is structured after Solomon’s prayer and God’s appearance in IIChron. 6 & 7. He declares both God’s righteousness and mercy as he confesses
that it is Israel’s sin, rebellion, and defiance of God’s law and prophets that has
led to God inflicting the curse and oath of Deut. 28 and 32 against Israel. Daniel
calls to the God of the Exodus and confesses their sin. He then makes
intercession from the Word of God established in Solomon’s prayer.
E. While Daniel is speaking, yes, while he is speaking, Gabriel appears before
Daniel about the time of the evening offering. Gabriel goes beyond the current
exile and addresses the whole of Israel’s history.
Dan. 9:20-23 Now while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the
sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God
for the holy mountain of my God, 21 yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man
Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly
swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering. 22 And he informed
me, and talked with me, and said, "O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you
skill to understand. 23 At the beginning of your supplications the command went
out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider
the matter, and understand the vision:

VI. THE URGENCY OF THE HOUR
A. We must understand this for ministry at the end of the age. When all the
resources are taken away, intercession is all there is. They can take your building,
your money, but they can never take your prayers.
Jude 3-4 Beloved, while Iwas very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it
necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith
which was once for all delivered to the saints.
B. The Story of the Famous Evangelist in China Who Had a Stroke and Could Not
Travel. When he prayed from the hospital bed all of China shook.
C. We must move into the nobility of our calling of intercessors. We must move
past our shame and guilt into the nobility of our calling, the very thing which
Jesus purchased with Royal Blood. We must not strain at a gnat and swallow a
camel. You think you are a mess, but you are actually much worse than you
perceive. Your problem is not the things you’ve done wrong. You have a much
bigger issue. You hate that which I love
–you! You hate what I died for andfought for.
D. The five-fold ministry is currently divorced from intercession. The New
Testament clearly joins the five-fold ministry to intercession. It would be an
affront to the Apostles of the early church to have prayer meetings occurring
where the five-fold ministry was not leading them. We have wrongly proclaimed
intercession as left to the specially gifted ones. NO! Intercession is by our
design. It is at the core of what it means to be human. We as leaders have given
ourselves to the latest fads in church growth, the latest conference, yet we do not
enter into the very thing which makes us live. We fail to be what He made us to
be.
Ps 82:6-7 I said,"You are gods,And all of you are children of the MostHigh. 7 But you shall die like men."
E. Jer. 23
F. Jer. 27:16-18 Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, "Thus says
the LORD: 'Do not listen to the words of your prophets who prophesy to you,
saying, "Behold, the vessels of the LORD's house will now shortly be brought
back from Babylon"; for they prophesy a lie to you. 17 Do not listen to them;
serve the king of Babylon, and live! Why should this city be laid waste?
18 But ifthey are prophets, and if the word of the LORD is with them, let them now
make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the
house of the LORD, in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, do not go
to Babylon.'

I. INTRODUCTION –DANIEL 9:1-4A
Dan. 9:1-4 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the lineage of the Medes,
who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans -- 2 in the first year of his reign I,
Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified by the word of the
LORD through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the
desolations of Jerusalem. 3 Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by
prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. NKJV
A. In the First Year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the lineage of the Medes,
who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans –538 B.C. Daniel is nearly
eighty years old.
B. Backdrop of the Prayer – Jeremiah’s Prophecy in Jeremiah 25:8-12, Jer. 29:10,
and 2 Chron. 36:21. Reading Jeremiah, Daniel understands the number of years
of Israel’s desolations and subsequent release from captivity.
I believe thatDaniel also had a vision in conjunction with the reading of Jeremiah, for Daniel
states in verse 21 that he had seen Gabriel in the vision at the beginning. The
beginning of when? Also, in verse 23 Gabriel states that he has come to give
Daniel the skill to understand the vision. What vision? I thought it said he was
reading Jeremiah. I believe Daniel was reading Jeremiah when God revealed the
truth of Jeremiah and at that time gave him a vision of things to come. It is
possible that Daniel can be referring to seeing Gabriel for the first time in chapter
eight.
Jer. 29:10-14 For thus says the LORD: After seventy years are completed at
Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you
to return to this place. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the
LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12
Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
14 I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your
captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I
have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you to the place from which I
cause you to be carried away captive. NKJV

III. GABRIEL’S APPEARING
Dan. 9:20-23 Now while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of
my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy
mountain of my God, 21 yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I

A. While Daniel is still speaking, Gabriel appears. The name, Gabriel, means, "the
strong man of the strong God". Daniel restates that it was while he was speaking
that Gabriel arrived and points to the effectiveness of intercession. Daniel in his
eighties makes the most effectual decision and enters into intercession. This
releases the answer from heaven and divine mysteries of another day.

B. This comes at the time of the evening offering between 3 and 4 pm. Though
Daniel has not participated in the evening sacrifice in 65 years and although the
sacrifices themselves ended almost fifty years prior due to the destruction of
Israel, Daniel still faithfully prays during this time.
C. Gabriel touches Daniel and comes to specifically give him skill to understand.
Again, Daniel is in need of divine assistance in understanding the end of the age
scenario. Gabriel also points out that at the beginning of his supplications the
command went out. Intercession is answered at the beginning of Daniel’s
supplications.
D. Gabriel goes further to bolster Daniel’s heart in the love of God and tells him that
he is greatly beloved by God. Daniel is a treasured possession to the Lord.
Daniel has faithfully prayed over the disturbing visions in chapters seven and
eight for 17 years! God now releases the revelation of His great love for Daniel in
order to strengthen his heart to overcome all fear. His body is weakening at
eighty. How will Israel fare? Will the chastisement end? Has Israel met the
conditions of Deut. 30? God comforts Daniel in the midst of the prophetic burden
for his people. "Daniel, here is what heaven thinks of your contending for the life
of your people. You are greatly beloved by God!"
IV. INTERPRETATION OF THE VISION
Dan. 9:24-27 "Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, To
finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To
bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the
Most Holy.
25 "Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To
restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and
sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.
26 "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the
people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it
shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 Then he
shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall
bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who
makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the
desolate." NKJV
A. Daniel intercedes for Israel’s release from Babylonian captivity and receives the
answer that there is another period of desolation coming. Israel will return to her
land, but only to enter into more desolation at the hands of Rome and then again
at the hands of a coming prince.

B. It is revealed that 70 years will not end Israel’s captivity from their sinfulness and
rebellion. It will be seventy sevens before the end. That is, seventy periods of
seven years will pass before Israel is in right standing with Yahweh.
C. This prophecy is Israel specific. Israel and Jerusalem will pass through seventy
prophetic periods of seven years and then six things will be accomplished.
1. To finish transgression
2. To make an end of sins
3. To make reconciliation for iniquity
4. To bring in everlasting righteousness –Salvation of Israel and the
Millennial Reign of Christ.
5. To seal up vision and prophecy –Fulfilling all the prophetic promises.
Peter calls this the time of the restoration of all things in Acts 3:21
Acts 3:19-26 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be
blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the
Lord, 20 and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you
before, 21 whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all
things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since
the world began. 22 For Moses truly said to the fathers, 'The LORD your
God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you
shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. 23 And it shall be that
every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from
among the people.' 24 Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those
who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days. 25
You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with
our fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed all the families of the
earth shall be blessed.' 26 To you first, God, having raised up His Servant
Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your
iniquities." NKJV

V. DANIEL’S SEVENTY SEVENS
A. The Time Frame of the Seventy Seven Year Periods –490 years.
1. The Hebrew phrase that is translated in the NKJV as seventy weeks is
literally translated seventy sevens. This phrase, "sevens," can refer to
days, weeks, or years. Most scholars agree that it should be translated
seventy sevens or seventy periods of seven years.
2. The prophecy indicates that this seventy sevens season for Israel will
begin when a command goes forth for the rebuilding of Jerusalem. There
will be seventy sevens that coincide with the rebuilding of Jerusalem and
then 69 sevens which will lead up to the time of the Messiah. After 69
sevens or 483 years the Messiah will be cut off, followed by the
destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple by Rome. This occurred when
Titus destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 A.D.
3. This will lead to an intermediate time frame known as the war desolations.
Then the prince of the people who destroyed the city and sanctuary right
after the 69th seven will make a strong covenant with Israel. However, this
covenant will turn rancid in the middle of the seven year period. At that
time this prince will bring an end to religious practice with the
abomination of desolation.
4. The consummation or the end of Israel’s exile takes place when this
wicked prince is destroyed at the Second Coming of Christ.
B. Two Views for persons who hold to the 490 years as a literal figure.
1. The starting point began with the decree of Artaxerxes I to Ezra in 458
B.C. to return to Palestine and ended with Jesus’ baptism in 26 A.D.
Stephen Miller holds to this view.
a. This view has strength in that the years are literal and calculated
according to a normal calendar year. It also has strength in pointing to
Jesus’ baptism as the beginning of Jesus’ messianic ministry.
b. It weakness lies in the fact that there is no mention in the decree for
Ezra to rebuild Jerusalem.
THE BOOK OF DANIEL
–ALLEN HOODDan. 9 – Israel’s Seventy Sevens Page 7
Friends of the Bridegroom
www.fotb.com
2. The starting point began with a second decree issued by Artaxerxes I to
Nehemiah in 445 B.C. and ends with the triumphal entry on Palm Sunday
in 32 A.D. This decree in recorded in Nehemiah 2:5 specifically mentions
the rebuilding of Jerusalem. John Walvoord and Robert Van Kampen
hold to this view.
a. The years in this view are figured as prophetic years. Prophetic years
are figured with 360 days in a year. For example, in Daniel 3 ˝ years
is said to be 1,260 days.
b. This view has strength in that Nehemiah records the command to build
Jerusalem, yet weakens in regard to the time frame of Christ’s death.
Most scholars believe that Jesus was crucified in the Spring of 30 A.D.
Although proponents of this view argue that the dating of Christ’s
death is not certain and some evidence points to 33 A.D.
VI. SUMMARY OF KEY POINTS IN THE INTERPRETATION OF THE VISION
A. Seventy Seven Year Periods will occur before Israel’s final and complete
restoration. This is a literal 490 year period in Israel’s history which will usher in
everlasting righteousness, the fulfillment of God’s promises, and the reign of
Christ on earth as King from Jerusalem.
B. The First 483 Years
1. This prophetic period will begin at the command to build Jerusalem.
2. Seven sevens will finish the rebuilding of Jerusalem’ streets and walls, but
this will take place in perilous times. Read Nehemiah for the details.
3. After another 62 sevens or after a total of 69 sevens (483 years), the
Messiah will be cut off and not for himself. Some translate "not for
himself" as "nothing to him" (See Miller, p. 267). The first implies that
He gave His life for others, and the second means that His earthly life
seemingly was in vain and amounted to nothing.
John 1:10-12 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him,
and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own
did not receive Him. NKJV

Acts 2:36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God
has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." NKJV
Acts 3:13-19 But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a
murderer to be granted to you, 15 and killed the Prince of life, whom God
raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. 16 And His name,
through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and
know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect
soundness in the presence of you all. 17 "Yet now, brethren, I know that
you did it in ignorance, as did also your rulers. 18 But those things which
God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would
suffer, He has thus fulfilled. NKJV
4. The people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the
sanctuary with a flood until the end of war desolations is determined.
a. Titus of Rome in 70 A.D. destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple.
Josephus records the devastation of this event.
b. This reveals that the prince, known as the Antichrist, will come from
Rome or at least from the peoples of the Old Roman Empire.
5. A gap in time is revealed between the 69th seven and the 70th seven. Until
the war desolations is determined signifies an undesignated amount of
time where Israel will go through some sort of desolations outside of the
land in a dispersed or exiled state. This has come to be known as the
Great Diaspora.
C. The Seventieth Seven
1. This time frame is kicked off by the end of the war desolations and the
rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem. This assumes that Israel is back in
the land.
2. The Antichrist makes a covenant with Israel probably around the issue of
securing peace. He makes a strong covenant or makes a covenant with a
strong hand.
a. Reasons why the "he" in verse 27 cannot be referring to Jesus.

(1) Jesus never made a seven year covenant of peace with the
nation of Israel at the beginning of His ministry. In fact, Simeon
prophesied this concerning Jesus’ first coming:
Luke 2:34-35"Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising
of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against
35(yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the
thoughts of many hearts may be revealed." NKJV
(2) Jesus did not define His first coming as one of peace. He
cleanses the Temple as His first public religious act and disrupts
peace with the official authorities of His day. At the end of His
ministry after the triumphal entry Jesus weeps over Jerusalem for
their rejection of what would have brought them true peace and
references the day when their embrace of a demonic ruler will lead
them to destruction in days ahead.
Luke 19:41-44 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept
over it, 42 saying, "If you had known, even you, especially in this
your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are
hidden from your eyes. 43 For days will come upon you when
your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you
and close you in on every side, 44 and level you, and your
children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you
one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your
visitation." NKJV
Luke 12:49-53 "I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it
were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with,
and how distressed I am till it is accomplished! 51 Do you
suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all,
but rather division. 52 For from now on five in one house will be
divided: three against two, and two against three. 53 Father will be
divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter
and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughterin-
law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." NKJV
(3) Jesus’ ministry did not put an end to the sacrifices and
offerings. Rome put an end to them in 70 A.D. with the
destruction of the Temple.

(4) Verse 26 states that this covenant of peace shall follow the
cutting off of the Messiah, the destruction of the Temple, and the
end of the war desolations. Jesus’ earthly ministry ends before
both the destruction of the Temple and the war desolations.
b. Thus, the context supports the rendering of the pronoun, "he", in verse
27 as the "prince who is to come" in verse 26. Translating this as the
Antichrist is also consistent with the deeds and destruction of the little
horn in chapter seven.
3. In the middle of the 70th Seven the Antichrist breaks his covenant of
peace, invades Jerusalem, and makes the abomination of desolation in the
Temple. Daniel 11:31 tells us that there will be a specific abomination of
desolation set up in the Temple. In this chapter it is plural,
"abominations." Along with the Abomination will be many abominations
that will provoke the wrath of God against the Antichrist.
Zech. 14:2 For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The
city shall be taken, The houses rifled, And the women ravished. Half of
the city shall go into captivity, But the remnant of the people shall not be
cut off from the city. NKJV
2 Thess. 2:2-4 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not
come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed,
the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is
called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of
God, showing himself that he is God. NKJV
4. This initiates the Great Tribulation/Jacobs Trouble and begins the
Judgments of God. The 70th Seven ends with the Antichrist’s destruction
at the Second Coming of Christ.
Matt 24:15-22 "Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken
of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him
understand), 16 "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let
him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18
And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to
those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20
And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then
there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the
world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were
shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be
shortened.
