Many of you may have or may not have heard of the story of the ten cow wife. Well there is a story of this very wealthy man named Johnny Lingo in the Caribbean islands, who pays a father 8 cows for his daughter. Which was unheard of in that culture as because she was considered to be ugly and undesirable, and ten cows was ten times more than what she was worth. Johnny who paid the high price for her takes her away to live with him on another island where he genuinely loves her, and lavishes his love upon extravagantly. Years later they return to visit, and no one recognizes her. She is considered the most beautiful, pleasant woman they’ve ever seen. Her own father squints at her in disbelief, stating he should have charged 12 cows for his now more than desirable daughter.

There is something extraordinary that happens to the human heart when it’s loved, it becomes a beautiful place. The greatest travesty in humanity today is that we have no idea how much we are loved. God’s passion for humanity is unmatched in all of creation:

“For his love is as strong as death, it’s jealously unyielding as the grave, It burns like blazing fire, like a most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench his love rivers cannot overwhelm it. If one were to give the entire wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly despised.” Song of Songs 8:6-7

Yet it pleased the Father  to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the

LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.” Is. 53:10

“The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him for he is your Lord” Ps. 45:11

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that who so ever

believes in him shall have eternal life.” John 3:16

Most of us have heard these verses over and over. Friends I’m here to tell you that they are not concepts, but reality. The Lord greatly desires you.  He formed you,  he made you, He breathed life into your lungs, His breath even now sustains you; his desire is for you. His love for you and me is a blazing inferno of desire, and no amount of shame, sin, or accusation can cease it’s rage. The Father paid a high price for us and he is bent on having and enjoying what he paid for…you and me. So if God loves us so much, has given so much, and has promised so much when he returns then why don’t we live like ones that are loved extravagantly?

I was in the prayer room today, and I noticed this girl sitting in front of me. There was something peculiar about her, on the outward appearance she seemed as normal as any other girl, but there was a beauty or confidence about her that caught my eye. I noticed that she had her left arm up on the chair and sure enough on her left ring finger was a rock that could have made some rap stars blush.  I could tell just by looking at her that she was well loved. She walked around guarding that left hand as if her life depended on it, not because of it’s worth but because of what it meant, she was loved.

This is how we should live. This is how I choose to live. I’m loved by God. There is nothing anyone can do or say to change that. The one who sustains all life loves me, surly he will help, provide, and vindicate in whatever circumstance I find myself in. He is the king who very soon will descend on a cloud slaying the unrighteous, and resorting all things. To end this collaboration of my thoughts for the day I’d like to leave you with the words to part of my favorite hymn; It is well with my soul.

And Lord haste the day

When my faith shall become sight

The clouds be rolled back as a scroll

The trump shall resound

The Lord shall descend

Even so it is well with my soul

I miss you Jesus
