Resisting The Thief Of Wonder

“And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, ‘We have seen extraordinary things today’.” Luke 5:26
Overfamiliarity is the Christian's greatest enemy. It’s the thief of wonder.
It robs us from encountering the activity of God in our lives.
The cosmic God of the universe thinks about you, knows your name, and expressed His love for you on the cross in the most beautiful and mind blowing way. Yet overfamiliarity has most of us checking our instagram during worship to see if anyone liked the meme we posted about the political leader we don’t like.
I’m guilty of this as well. We ignore the splendor of the daily miracles all around us while hoping that one day we’ll see and experience something amazing.
But friends, amazing is all around us, we’re just overfamiliar with it.
The reality of our beautiful God and His daily activity is all around us. The question isn’t will God show us signs and wonders and prove He’s active in our lives. The question is will we slow down in prayer, contemplation, and wonder to be able to see the miracles God is performing all around us.
My prayer today: God restore our wonder at the things you have done and are doing. May we have eyes to see and give you the glory you are due.
